This is a very rare. Heisey Glass Company antique crushed fruit jar and lid in one of the many colonial patterns that was produced by Heisey Glass. This belonged to my Grandmother who would use it for the berries for sundaes and other desserts on the farm we lived on. I believe it may be part of the Puritan pattern, but no 100% sure. The bowl is well marked on the bottom with the Heisey diamond. The lid is not marked. It is in excellent used condition with no cracks, chips, damage, or repairs. I have run my fingers over several times and could find nothing except for one small remnant of a seam line on the lid. There are a couple scratches on the bottom surface from being slide across the resting surface. The glass has a slightly purpled hue that is caused by the chemical reaction of the magnesium and UV rays. Magnesium was phased out around 1915 from glass production. The amount of sun exposure will determine how dark it will become over time. I have measured the capacity by using a 2 cup measuring vessel. The crushed fruit is about 9 1/2 inches tall with the lid installed, about 5 7/8th inches tall with the lid removed, about 5 1/8th inches across the lids resting surface, and about 3 5/8th inches across the bottom resting surface. The piece is heavy at 4pounds 3 ounces before packing. This is one of those very hard choices. I have moved to a much smaller house. I’m in the process of downsizing the years of collecting to a more manageable size. As I unpack a box, the contents will be listed. Check back often, you never know while I’ll discover that you been looking for. An excellent piece to replace a lost or broken one or add to your collection.
