A mould was made by Fenton, and C&O officials visited the plant to see the Chessie box being produced in Fenton’s new Carnival glass colors beginning in 1970. Since then the “Chessie” box has been produced in many colors: Rosalene, Teal Marigold, Shell Pink, Red Carnival, Celeste Blue Pearl and Iridized Dusty Rose. This “Chassie” by Fenton Art Glass was created in 1991 in the Red Carnival Color. This “Chassie” is a Candy, Cov’d Chessie, 8 #9480 RN. The Red Carnival for 1991 is one of the most sought after of the antique carnival glass colors that commands the highest prices on the collector’s market. Fenton Red Carnival is made with Ruby glass and iridized with special metallic salt formula. Occasionally, there will be unusual coloration because of the way the ruby strikes and some pieces will have an amberina effect.
