This is a lovely piece of Victorian art glass – an 8 lobe Melon shaped MARMALADE or SWEETMEAT Jar made by the Mt. The body is white opalware glass with a creamy yellow shaded, satin finish – beautifully decorated with hand painted raised enamel Gold outlined Peonies and long tapered feathery leaves. It is finished with a silverplate collar, handle and an embossed lid decorated with birds & insects – circa 1890’s. (Shown in the last photo with a similar pattern Biscuit Jar – listed separately) Measurements : 5.5″ tall – handle up, 4″ high to the tip of the finial, 2.5″ high to the top of the collar, 4″ across the mouth, 5.25 wide body.
