Northwood Ruby Cranberry Paneled Sprig Pickle / Olive Caster Insert with Lid
Northwood Ruby Cranberry Paneled Sprig Pickle / Olive Caster Insert w/ Lid. I usually see these listed as pickle jars….. But I don’t think this one was intended for pickles. Notice the embossing on the lid – certainly not cucumbers! I think this particular one was intended for olives. These leaves aren’t quite right, but sometimes olives grow in pairs like that. I thought it was a jam / jelly jar for a while, but I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t have a notch in the lid for a spoon or spreader – that is so common in jars from this time frame. OLIVES, however, would have been served with tongs, and they would hang on the edge of the caster. It does not have any chips or cracks. I did find 2 very minor scratches on two of the plain panels, but each is less than 1/4 inch long. The top does show age appropriate wear to the olives. There is also one small spot on the side that isn’t exactly a scratch, about 1/4 inch long. I’m not sure what it is exactly, and it’s hard to see…… Let’s just go with blemish. It is that fantastic cranberry color that falls between red, purple, and pink. Just a fantastic piece all around. On this piece I did remove quite a bit of dust from the photos, which I promised to disclose since it is not cropping, brightness, or contrast. My rule for dust is When in doubt, it isn’t dust, so it stays. The jar and lid will be separated so they aren’t knocking into each other, and the whole shebang gets double boxed. MY TERMS FOR ALL VINTAGE GLASS ITEMS. Vintage and antique glass develops “Character” over time. I do my best to describe defects. Antique/vintage glass may have air bubbles, heat checks, ash residue or shearing/straw marks from the manufacturing process. These are not considered defects. True chips or cracks will be disclosed. I do try to describe even the smallest flaws, but I’m only human. For some people a flea bite is no big deal, but for others it is. If you would return an item for tiny chips, THAT’S OK. I try to remember to do it anyway, but reminders can’t hurt. I consider photographs to be part of my description. Please look at them carefully. Many times, if I HAVE missed something, it is visible in. And if you do see something that I haven’t mentioned, please contact me so I can correct the listing! If you have questions or want more pictures, please contact me. I do not oil my glass. I use white light or daylight for photos. Photos that were altered in any way other than brightness, contrast, or cropping will be disclosed. I do double box, but if your item arrives damaged, please contact me directly so that we can resolve the situation.
