Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for an unusually large Wave Crest opal glass cracker jar with silver plate lid. Smaller pieces in this form are considered bon-bon dishes and cracker jars are taller and much smaller. This size piece is most often found with or without a liner and described as a ferner, however, this piece not only has a bail (swing handle), it also has an embossed silver plated collar with elaborately embossed dome shaped lid with tall finial handle. The body has a drapery mold shape and is hand painted with blue flowers with yellow centers and green/gray foliage. I have been unable to find an example of this piece in either the Wave Crest book or in a C. Monroe catalog from the period. The silver plated collar, bail and lid are all decorated more elaborately than normally found on Wave Crest pieces so I believe this may be a rare piece of Wave Crest glass. Glass is marked on the bottom with the C. Much of the glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Measures 4 3/4″ high (to top of base) and about 8 1/2″ high (with bail upright) with the top measuring 6 3/8 in diameter. Weighs 2.7 pounds. This nice lidded basket is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws to the glass or silver. The silver plated collar and bail could use a better polish but will polish beautifully with no worn areas on the silver.
